Instructor for maiden flight?

Postby annihilate on Thu Apr 10, 2008 2:38 pm

Thanks to the LHS and this forum, the past couple days I've been making real good progress building my new engine mount on my Nitro trainer. I think I'm on track to be ready to fly in about a week. I just joined AMA and have emailed EAM to join them also.
How do I go about setting up to have someone buddy box me on my first flight? I have been flying Heli's for a year along with a couple electrics, but this will be my first Nitro. I'm running a Spektrum DX7 and have a spare Spektrum DX6 if the club doesnt have a TX to buddy box it with.
Thanks

I tried to send you a PM but was having computer issues...

I finished my plane and went up to the EAM field on Saturday. There was only one other member flying but he was able to give me some tips and I took her out for her maiden flight. On take off at about 10 feet up and a 45 degree climb, the engine cut out. She stalled and luckily I was able to get her attitude under control before she came down. I landed square on the landing gear, breaking the nose wheel and scuffing up the front end. I have already made repairs and I'm ready for my second maiden attempt.

I have been doing some work tuning the engine and think I have it dialed in now. It appears to have been running too rich during my maiden. Hopefully take two goes a bit better.
